Primal Scream - Beautiful Future - Album Review
July 20th
Album Review By Josh Raymon

Bio:
Primal Scream, formed in 1982, are a Scottish alternative rock group.
With nine studio albums and several lineup changes, the band is made
up of Bobby Gillespie (Vocals), Andrew Innes (Guitar), Martin Duffy
(Keyboards), Gary 'Mani' Mounfeild (Bass), Darrin Mooney (Drums).

They have sold over 10 million records since their breakthrough release,
"Screamadelica" (1991).

Track 1 - Beautiful Future
Being its title track, and my first exposure to the band, it makes sense to
comment about it. A very upbeat, happy number (sets the tone for the
album). Dark lyrics with a catchy chorus, that glosses over its topic,
make for an ironic feel to the song. Overall a good album opener.

Track 3 - Uptown
A more relaxed number, with several synths building up against the
vocals creating an impressive melody and sound. The layering of the
bass, singers and synths against the drum beat makes for interesting
differences in texture.

Track 5 - Suicide Bomb
Another change of feel with this track, the aggressive synth sounds in
this are a world apart from the organ-like synth's in Uptown. Sets the
tone for this track which is more driving and up-tempo, reminiscent of the
dystopia sound perfected by Gary Numan in the 80's, with a suitable
apocalyptic feel.

Track 7 - I Love to Hurt
This track is one of the collaborations Primal Scream did for this album,
featuring the vocals of CSS' Lovefoxx. With a light dance feel, it also has
a feeling of urgency. Lovefoxx' vocals are more prominent in the second
half, and she complements Bobby Gillespie's vocals well.

Beautiful Future
This album has a variety of sounds, the four tracks above demonstrating
this. Other tracks go in even more directions, meaning you are
compelled to listen to the whole album to see whats next. Overall, a very
well balanced album and a great addition to their long line of studio work.

9/10 - Eclectic.
