Tonight Is Goodbye - Castles - MINI Album Review - April 2nd 08'
Album Review By Ian S. Russell
TRACK 1 "Brain"
This is my 1st time Hearing Tonight Is Goodbye, and the opening track
from there upcoming mini-album, sadly dampens my hopes for the album.
Theres nothing hugely wrong with the 1st track, although, like so many
promos I'm sent, it has the generic "indie-whine" sound to it.
That being said, Ant West (Vocals) does have a good voice, which is why
its such a shame the band aren't testing it!
TRACK 3 "Noughts And Crosses"
Much like the 1st track, Ant keeps the same vocals, with the same
undertone "whine" the track backing doesn't really change ether and it
pushes Tonight Is Goodbye back into the cluttered closet of wanna be
indie bands that cant stand out from the crowd.
There are a few positive points to this track, 1 being the guitar backing
being given its own bridge, which does give the track a little more
originally, just sadly not enough.
TRACK 6 "Castles"
THIS IS WHAT THIS ALBUM NEEDS! The final track, is alot slower than
the past 5, and unlike many of the bands that are in that "cluttered
closet" i mentioned earlier, they have not just used the final track as an
outro, "castles" is more of a ballad than an outro, and this is the 1 reason
the album isn't receiving an abysmal score.
ALBUM "Castles"
Generic Indie... This album is receiving a 5 / 10 as the talent is there,
Castle proves this. There is no great track, and Castles is only OK, but it
proves the band have the talent, one can only hope they use it better
when it comes to a full studio album release!
5 / 10 - I really hope they work a little harder on the full album!
