| The Stone Gods First of all, I think it’s important to mention that although the ‘Stone Gods’ were established with ex-members of ‘The Darkness’, that is the only similarity between the two bands that we noticed. There was neither the arrogance nor the pretension that one might have expected from ex-members of such a huge band. In fact, it completely took me by surprise when Dan Hawkins himself popped his head round the door of reception apologising for their over running sound checks before the interview! The band describes their music as a ‘heavier beast’ compared to their Darkness days and the music is less commercial which in my opinion, makes it far more enjoyable. The gig got off to a great start with ‘Burn the Witch’ which is their main track off their new EP being released mid- February. The crowd lapped it up; everyone was waving and jumping about at the front! Considering the band have not yet established themselves fully, the turn out was amazing and the place was nearly full. These guys were really heading back to basics and seemed to be enjoying taking up the smaller stage. We felt welcome - The gig was totally intimate, and you could really feel the love that the band had for the fans who turned out to watch them. I think that’s a great thing for a band to have when playing a gig; not only stage presence, but a true sense of gratitude for their supporters. Numerous times, lead singer, Richie Edwards, thanked the crowd for turning up and showing their support. It would seem that ‘The Stone Gods’ will become the phoenix that rises from the ashes of a band that now feels like a distant memory. We wish them well for the future!
