Get Cape Wear Cape Fly - Get Cape Wear Cape Fly
Album Review - Sept 10th 2010
Album Review By Ian S. Russell

BIO:
Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly is the stage name of south-end
born singer / songwriter Sam Duckworth and his band. Sam's
3rd album (a self titled album) has promised to be filled with
'quasi-political themes, ideas, and concerns - glad to see Sam
seems to be sticking to his guns and not churning out the
same mindless slurry that some singer songwriters seem to
have resorted to.

TRACK 2 "Collapsing Cities"
The 1st single from the upcoming album is the poetically titled
2nd track of the album "Collapsing Cities" as expected this is a
stunning fusion of acoustic melodic guitar riffs, an electro-drum
beat, Sam's unmistakable lyrics, and a host of other little glints
of originality.

I love this track, and everything about it, and thats quite a
statement from someone who really doesn't find the sound of
electro-drum beat that pleasing - Sam seems to have a unique
talent to over-ride that judgement from my ears however. The
catchy bridge section, brass backing, beautiful lyrics, and hand
claps just top this track off - I really do hope this hits the top
10, its a huge statement of British singer/songwriter talent.

TRACK 5 "Queen For A Day"
Sam has a-lot more attitude in this track, as does the overall
sound of the track, that is until the verse sections, that seem to
revert back to Sam's old laid back style... This really doesn't
make for a good song, its far to jerky, and just doesn't fit... I'm
sure old school Get Cape fans will like this track, but it really
isn't for me.

TRACK 7 "Where Will You Stand"
Track 7 titled 'Where Will You Stand' sounds as ominous
throughout as the name would suggest, it is much darker than
most of Sam's past work, I would recommend this track to
everyone who has heard Sam's past track's - whether they
love, or hate them, simply because it shows the guy does have
range, and in the words of the great Tim Minchin - Sam 'Can
have a darkside too' - A great if slightly different track.

TRACK 11 "Morning Light"
"Morning Light" steps up Sam's electro influence, with the large
majority of the song covered by Ibiza-like waves of electro, this
creates a very odd blend, but somehow yet again Sam pulls it
off with quite a bit of talent. The very catchy electro bridge also
helps add a shot of originality to this track making it a sure fan
fav.

ALBUM "Get Cape Wear Cape Fly"
This album is an odd little collection of tracks to say the least,
Sam's un-mistakable voice is the only element of the album
that seems to hold steady, I'm not saying thats a bad thing, but
the album does sound more like a very high-budget concept
album rather than 1 set for mainstream release. As always we
wish Sam the best of luck, he's not only a great guy, but has
heaps of talent, the only thing holding him back seems to be
he's not commercial enough to make a huge dint in the charts,
and yet he's still too commercial for a-lot of people to fully
enjoy.

7 / 10 - A good album, but maybe a small step down from
his last.
