The first support band: 'Spycatcher' go through the motions...
The songs they play are ok, with a sound not too dissimilar to
'Hexes' – but along with 'Hexes' the vocals have a tendency to
grate, and be slightly irritating after three consecutive songs
that show no variation in pitch or tone. A light release comes in
the form of ‘Music That My Dad Likes’ with simple rather
amusing lyrics, this is the stand out of the set.

Tonight’s show sees the valleys 'Funeral For A Friend' take
on Nottingham.
It’s been almost a year since they last graced the main stage
of Rock City and the atmosphere surrounding the crowd
before they perform shows that they have been waiting for
this night.

With the recent release of best of album ‘Your History Is
Mine’ this tour is very much a thank you to all the fans they
have gathered since early release ‘Seven Ways To Scream
Your Name.’ Even the set list has been voted for by fans,
eager to hear old favourites and songs usually left off the
stage.

But before Funeral for a Friend take to the stage (with the
help of a man dressed as a banana trying –but failing- to
pump up the bewildered crowd). We have the 2 support
bands...

- FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND -
Finally it is time for the main act.
The crowd bustle around excitedly, and after the confusing introduction of Mr Banana-man the band
take to the stage blasting into opener Streetcar. As soon as the dial tone is heard the crowd explodes
into a frenzy shouting back the song word for word at front man Matt Davies-Kreye. This is tonight’s rule
‘If you know it, sing it!’ Due to the fact that the set list has been almost exclusively chosen by the fans
this rule applies to everyone, for every song – bar new tunes ‘Built To Last’ and ‘Captains Of Industry.’

‘Because our old record label decided to release a best of album some people are worried of what’s
going to happen next, well know this – we aren’t going anywhere!’ This introduction to the former, aptly
named ‘Built To Last’ shows Funeral For A Friend are still going strong – and proud.

Set highlights included classics such as the blistering ‘She Drove Me To Daytime Television’, ‘Escape
Artists Never Die’ and a crushing performance of ‘The Art Of American Football.’ Set closer (and song
which can be credited as the song that made them) Juneau receives an astonishing reaction by the
audience, both physically and vocally, containing the line EVERY ffaf fan has chanted along to, this is a
classic end to a memorable night, and as the band leave the stage they leave the whole crowd
sweating, tired but ultimately satisfied.

Prior to the gig we also got the chance to sit back and chat with the Welsh Rockers, Read our full
