Track Review:
There is so much in the four minutes of this, the third single from Oxford's
A Silent Film. Their previous release, the anthemic "You Will Leave A
Mark", left a mark as the Sunday Times Culture Magazine named it as one
of 'The Hottest Downloads' earlier in the year.
The piano-led intro gets you ready for an epic. Robert Stevenson's
soaring vocals are held up in the air by the band's great harmonies. The
other instruments drive the song along, letting the piano surface time and
again. The lyrics are thought provoking, a lament for a lost relationship
and powered by the imagery of water. This well-crafted song reaches its
pitch, lets things go quiet and then the backing crashes in again to carry it
to the end.
Somewhere there is a filmmaker looking for the perfect song for their
soundtrack, and this is it. It all bodes well for the debut album "The City
That Sleeps", produced by Sam Williams (Supergrass, The Noisettes).
