Guns N Roses Reunion Update – ‘The Full Band WILL Be There…’

guns_n_roses_axl_rose_and_slash_1

Since being anounnsed as a Hall of Fame inductee, The original Guns N Roses line up have had even more than the usual press speculation tornado around them – with almost every tweet, post and blob being analysed and reported. Well, BBC News have confirmed that in a very recent interview with ex-Gunner DizzyReed the member did confirm the full, original line-up will be in Cleveland for the Hall Of Fame Induction.

In recent weeks, we’ve reported on the story that not only has Axl and Slash mended their bad blood and -, but Slash even wished Axl a happy birthday (All be it in his normal, non-shelant way):
‘Duff’s bday yesterday, the redhead’s today, Happy Birthday fuckers! iiiI; )’

In the interview Dizzy is quoted as saying:
“I know that all the original band is going to be there,” Reed told Billboard. “I’m just going to go in with a good attitude and a clear head and a grateful heart.”

When asked about whether the band will actually perform together, he said:
“I don’t know exactly what’s going to go down,” Reed added. “It’s one of those things I’m sure will all come together and be really cool.”

Its news to no-one that the band have caused, amazement, joy, and anger to millions throughout the world, but a line-up reunion I’m sure, will only cause the 1st of those 2 – at-least for us here at Scorpio, Whatever happens its sure to us, as it is the world that those lucky people who will be attending the Rock And Roll hall of fame induction are in for one hell of a night.

The event will take unfold from July 13th-15th and will take place at The Alton Lounge Bar in Alton. If you are not familiar with these (and why aren’t you?) then head over to Facebook and go check them out. If you have even a passing interest in modern technical metal (and perhaps even if you don’t) there is plenty there for you to get your teeth into.

Stay tuned for more updates as and when they occur.

Crash Doubt Festival 2012 Announces Its First Wave Of Bands

crash doubt

The small city of Lincoln, at the heart of the second largest county in the UK, has a relatively small alternative music scene, but it is events like this and the promotion company behind it that are helping put Lincoln on the touring map.

The event will be held over the 2nd and 3rd of June at The Showroom.

The line up is mixture of hardcore, punk, rock and metal and has international, UK based and local bands on the bill.

Highlights on the line up so far include:

BRUTALITY WILL PREVAIL, LAST WITNESS, LEGEND (USA), SILENT SCREAMS, HEART IN HAND, POLAR, HANG THE BASTARD, THE PLIGHT, HILDAMAY, DEMORALISER, BASTIONS, THE SKINTS, NO TRIGGER (USA), HEARTSOUNDS (USA), SHARKS, TELLISON, RANDOM HAND, THE JB CONSPIRACY, CRAZY ARM and many many more. Check out the flyer, Facebook event page or the promotion company’s Tumblr for more information and the rest of the line up so far.

There are more special guests to be announced and the stages/day split has yet to be confirmed.

Tickets cost £22.50 per day or £40 for a weekend ticket. There is an after party as well as record stalls, clothing stalls, a BBQ, DJ sets and a bar. Everything you would expect from a typical festival. Only online tickets are available at the moment, with physical tickets going on sale from March 1st. If you want to order your ticket now, to avoid disappointment, then head over to www.lincolnista.com/tickets.

Little scenes like this one in Lincoln are helping to keep the underground alternative music culture in this country alive. The UK underground scene is VERY strong at the moment, regardless of what part of the alternative spectrum you prefer. Help to maintain this by getting to events like this. It will almost certainly be money well spent.

Aliases Headline London Based “A Night Of Tech” All Day Event

ANT

Redivivus Promotions are presenting London locals with a chance to check out some of the UK’s finest up and coming modern technical and progressive metal bands at an all day event, that will be headlined by scene leaders, ALIASES.

The “A Night Of Tech” takes play on Saturday March 17th. There are 13 bands for the recession busting price of £5 (face value).

If you are not familiar with ALIASES (featuring former SIKTH guitarist, “Pin”) then I suggest you head over to their Facebook page or their label’s (Basick Records) website and go familiarise yourself. If you are a fan of modern technical metal then you will not be disappointed.

Aliases

ALIASES are joined on the line up by:

As well as bands, there will be guest DJ performances from Chav of, former UK tech metallers, SUBVERSION and Paul from FALL AGAINST FATE.

To get your tickets head over here. It’s a Saturday in March, what better way could you think of spending a day and a mere £5? The UK technical metal scene is one of the best in the world and if we are going to keep it that way, then we all have to support it however we can. An ALIASES headliner show on a tour would cost you more than £5, so if you are in the London area on the 17th then head over there and show your support.

Veil Of Maya Announce European Eclipse Tour 2012 (With An Epic Supporting Bill)

veil of maya

Chicago based progressive/technical deathcore mob, VEIL OF MAYA, have announced a European wide tour (this April/May) in support of their upcoming release Eclipse that is released (on Sumerian Records) on 28th February.

VEIL OF MAYA are no strangers to the UK scene, but they are bringing with them a supporting cast that are far less well known to UK audiences and venues.

They are joined by French symphonic/progressive deathcore bruisers, BETRAYING THE MARTYRS, who are about to embark on a UK tour as part of the Bonecrusher Festival and are on the tour cycle of their excellent 2011 release, Breathe In Life.

They are also joined on the tour by up and coming Swedish “thall” champions, VILDHJARTA, who will be playing in support of their critically acclaimed 2011 release, Måsstaden (released on Century Media). Måsstaden is held in very high esteem on the “djent” scene and their explosion in 2011 was something that I, as a music fan as well as a reporter, was excited to see. They are certainly this reporters most anticipated band of the tour.

Rounding up the line up are the US progressive/technical “core” crews of STRUCTURES and VOLUMES, that both released fantastic and highly lauded releases in 2011 (released on Sumerian and Mediaskare Records respectively). They both use a “djent” heavy progressive/groove based metalcore sound and are both worth checking out. They appeal to “core” fans and progressive/technical fans alike. Expect to see both bands do some pretty big things in 2012. They have both already started to establish themselves on the North American circuit and they will make more of a name for themselves in Europe, thanks to this tour.

The dates are restricted to English venues only and all the dates are as follows (sorry those of you in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, you will have to travel):

02.05.12 – Reading, Sub89

03.05.12 – Leeds, The Well

04.05.12 – London, Underworld

05.05.12 – Newcastle, Academy2

06.05.12 – Manchester, Moho

07.05.12 – Birmingham, Academy3

As you can see the venues are intimate so the shows will be absolute corkers and with a line up like this, they should sell well. So don’t leave it too late (if you decide to go) before you purchase your tickets.

The ticket prices have not been given yet and only one of the venues on the tour even has the tour mentioned yet, but according to the Underworld website tickets go on sale Tuesday, 14th February. So if your partner is a fan, you now have an easy Valentine’s Day purchase for them.

Check venue websites (always do this first) and the usual ticket vendors, for ticket information and prices (when they go up).

This will be one of the most “djent” filled tours of the year. So ladies and djentlemen, be prepared.

Deftones Bassist Chi Cheng Recovering From Coma

Deftones member Chi Cheng is beginning to emerge from a coma after spending the last three and a half years in an unconscious state. The bassist has been in a coma since a car crash in Santa Clara, California in November 2008.

The band initially cancelled all their scheduled performances while his family began an appeal to raise money to help cover his medical costs.

After seven months in hospital, Cheng’s condition slowly began to improve and he was taken off life support.

It has now been reported that Cheng has managed to start emerging from his coma, slipping in and out over short periods of time.

Cheng is starting to respond to sounds and is able to lift up his leg when asked by doctors

The whole Scorpio team wish Chi a fast recovery and our thoughts are with his family

Hollow Earth Signs with Panic Records – ‘We Are Not Humanity’ to Be Released April 17th

Hollow Earth Signs with Panic Records

We Are Not Humanity to Be Released April 17th

Hollow Earth was a thought between members Mike Moynihan (Guitar) Steve Muczynski (Vocals) and Aaron Goodrich (Drums) during their stint of touring with legendary hardcore band Shai Hulud during November 2010.

One year later, almost to the date, the three friends decided to take that thought more seriously. Rearranging their lives so they would be in the same location in Michigan , the members moved in together and put things in motion to become a real band. Their objective with Hollow Earth was to write sincere music and begin touring as much as possible.

Quickly recruiting Dave Giandiletti (Guitar) and Jake Hicks (Bass) to complete the line up they wrote a six song EP entitled “We Are Not Humanity” within the two and half months of their inception and headed off to record at Getaway Group in Massachusetts with Jay Maas (Defeater, Verse, Shipwreck).

On “We Are Not Humanity”, Hollow Earth draws on the influence of legendary bands like Turmoil and Buried Alive, capturing the energy and anger of hardcore that has been lost on so many new bands. Hollow Earth’s lyrics are dark with thought provoking premonitions that paint a picture of impending doom that threatens the human existence. Riding into our demise, there’s no turning back, the decimation of our world is eminent and Hollow Earth is the perfect soundtrack to play us out. “We Are Not Humanity” will be released on April 17th, 2012 through Panic Records on CD, Vinyl and Digital formats.

Listen to two new songs from “We Are Not Humanity” now on Hollow Earth’s Facebook page.

Slash Wishes Axel Rose A Happy Birthday – Its cold outside, But has hell really frozen over?

guns_n_roses_axl_rose_and_slash_1

With all these G’n'R reunion rumours flying around its not hard to see why Guns N Roses (current and ex) members twitter, facebook and any other sites attached to them are monitored on a second by second basis, That being said its still with some shock I read the following tweet:
‘Duff’s bday yesterday, the redhead’s today, Happy Birthday fuckers! iiiI; )’

Its quite well known that Slash has again and again mentioned in interviews how he is still open to talks with Axel, and has actually sent the ‘redhead’ birthday cards on occasion, still, this is quite a friendly message to be put out so openly in the public domain.

In the past whenever anyone has ever asked me about the chance of a Guns N Roses reunion, I have ALWAYS said the same thing ‘IF It was to ever happen, it’ll be at the Rock N Roll hall of fame in Cleveland’ Well, the band are finally set to be inducted into the hall of fame this year. Upon hearing the news of this years inductees, I do have to admit to the hairs on my back standing up and a few semi-frantic phone calls to find out what I could.

Well, Its a little over 2 months away, and being honest, a fair few signs are hinting at a reunion, Ignoring the birthday message, even Axel (The 1 piece of the puzzle that has been stone-faced in his anger, and at best indifference towards his ex-friends) has hinted this year that it does look like the HoF want them all there, and after we start talking ‘who knows what could happen’ – This is a sure hint that Axel is far from totally against a re-union – as he has been in the past.

Being honest, only a few people currently have any idea what is going to happen on that not-so-distant April weekend, and sadly none of those people write for us, So, we, like you, are just watching the drama unfold.

Black Sabbath Reunion? – More question marks appear…

It was with great sadness that we reported on Toni Iommi and his current ill-health, Not only was this of course an awful story, but it also cast huge doubt on the bands upcoming world tour – including a headline stop at this years Download festival, down the road at Donnington Park.

That feeling of un-ease was made worse by the confirmation of Soundgarden being the sub to Sabbath – with us guessing this is a panic move as Soundgarden could easily be pushed up to the headline stop that seems to hang in the balence.

Well, another day, another doubt it seems, with original Sabbath drummer Bill Ward posting the following on his facebook page…

“Dear Sabbath Fans, Fellow Musicians and Interested Parties,

At this time, I would love nothing more than to be able to proceed with the Black Sabbath album and tour. However, I am unable to continue unless a “signable” contract is drawn up; a contract that reflects some dignity and respect toward me as an original member of the band. Last year, I worked diligently in good faith with Tony, Ozzy and Geezer. And on 11/11/11, again in good faith, I participated in the L.A. press conference. Several days ago, after nearly a year of trying to negotiate, another ‘unsignable’ contract was handed to me.

Let me say that although this has put me in some kind of holding pattern, I am packed and ready to leave the U.S. for England. More importantly, I definitely want to play on the album, and I definitely want to tour with Black Sabbath. Since the news of Tony’s illness, and the understanding that the band would move production to the U.K., I’ve spent everyday getting to or living in a place of readiness to leave. That involves something of a task, and as I’ve tried to find out what’s going on with the U.K. sessions, I’ve realized that I’ve been getting “the cold shoulder” (and, I might add, not for the first time). Feeling somewhat ostracized, my guess is as of today, I will know nothing of what’shappening unless I sign ‘the unsignable contract’.

The place I’m in feels lousy and lonely because as much as I want to play and participate, Ialso have to stand for something and not sign on. If I sign as-is, I stand to lose my rights, dignity and respectability as a rock musician. I believe in freedom and freedom of speech. I grew up in a hard rock/metal band. We stood for something then, and we played from the heart with honesty and sincerity. I am in the spirit of integrity, far from the corporate malady, I am real and honest, fair and compassionate.

If I’m replaced, I have to face you, the beloved Sabbath fans. I hope you will not hold me responsible for the failure of an original Black Sabbath lineup as promoted. Without fault finding, I want to assure everyone that my loyalty to Sabbath is intact.

So here I am. I lay my truth down before you. I’m good to go IF I get a ‘signable’ contract. I don’t want to let anyone down, especially Black Sabbath and all the Sabbath fans. You know I love you. It would be a sad day in Rock if this current situation fell to the desires of a few.

My position is not greed-driven. I’m not holding out for a ‘big piece’ of the action (money) like some kind of blackmail deal. I’d like something that recognizes and is reflective of my contributions to the band, including the reunions that started fourteen years ago. After the last tour I vowed to never again sign on to an unreasonable contract. I want a contract that shows some respect to me and my family, a contract that will honor all that I’ve brought to Black Sabbath since its beginning.

That’s the story so far.

Stay safe and stay strong.

I love every single one of you.”
–Bill Ward
